“I was sitting on the bus on my way home one evening after uni and as it pulled up outside the RNZ building I saw a very large green ad for the Auckland Transport bike campaign that was a very distinct bright avocado flesh green – and the traffic light was situated perfectly in the centre – the red spot sat there assertively, holding more emotional space as a small spot than the larger green sign. I couldn’t help but think about them as a human couple, a comically short aggressive character, and a larger passive character who had to keep their compatriots out of trouble. After noticing this bizarre couple, I noticed many many others paired the same way, large green/small red/large green/small red all the way home. It started to get quite invasive to the point where after the initial noticing it was all I could think about.”
