wriggling

Weekly check in September 9th-15th

Following ‘tinytrumpet’ i found that its biggest failing was the lack of sophistication in the gradient, and after further look into Jess Johnson’s work i saw that she only works with flat colours and that if she does have a gradient its done modularly through the pattern. So I tried to do the striping technique in my next work.

Whilst I don’t necessarily like this work due to poor colour choices and steep learning curves, i still think it has value. the brown in the diamonds was a mistake because i transitioned from yellow to orange to red too quickly and had to think of something – it then clashes in a bad way with the brighter background. This painting took me three days because of the complications of it which is why I have less work this week.

learning a lot but having a complete blank when making the next work i tried something different

The only thing ive made this week that i actually like is this sketch i did before the next painting:

and then this was the work that came from it

‘gobbagoob’ watercolour and gouache on card, A3, sept 2021

i don’t like it and i nearly didn’t finish it. The colours don’t work together and i spent hours working on the double checker pattern with the yellow/blue, orange/purple, and it doesn’t even read. so i feel like I’m just wriggling.
